Ugh, I did not feel good. My stomach churned, and my mouth felt as though I had swallowed sand. I cracked my eyes open as little as possible to survey where I was. When I saw my bathrobe on the back of the door, I opened them a little more, my own familiar surroundings greeting me.

My head was spinning a little and my body ached. Served me right for foolishly drinking so much. I looked down at the t-shirt I was wearing... details were fuzzy. How had I got here? Oh right, Ben must have... Oh no! I quickly looked around the room for signs of Ben. A huge sigh of relief left me when I realized there were none.

I needed the washroom; maybe a shower would rejuvenate me. As I climbed slowly out of bed, I noticed my dress on the floor beside the bed. How had I gotten that off? I was definitely not liking that my memory was so hazy. Opening up my bedroom door, I emerged into the living room, where I quickly halted in the tracks. What was Ben doing sleeping on my couch? I was only in a t-shirt and knew I should run, but I needed just a moment to watch him. I smiled sheepishly at him. “Better than I deserve to feel. What are you doing here?”

“Well, I was going to go home, but I was a little worried about you so I stayed.”

“Yeah, I drank quite a bit there. Oh no...” I realized I had gone and done the same thing Ben had told me about that had ruined things for him in the past. “Oh, God, Ben, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to drink so much. You must be pretty pissed.”

Surprisingly, he laughed. “Are you kidding? Woman, you were amazing last night. Not only did you charm Mr. and Mrs. Kent, but you also helped move things along with Mr. Allen. I agree, you were nuts to try taking on Mr. Allen as a drinking partner, but wow. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was impressed by you.”

I let out the breath I had been holding. “Really? You aren’t angry?”

“Did I at all seem angry last night?”

Uh oh. “Well, to be honest, my memory is a little hazy.”

Ben smiled, but not just a normal smile; no, there was something else behind it. “That doesn’t surprise me. You don’t remember anything?”

“I remember drinking with Mr.
